PRODUCER, DIRECTOR, DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY, PHOTOGRAPHER.

Roy Zetisky has been filming and directing TV commercials since 1990 and was a prolific people, fashion and social documentary photographer for ten years prior to that. He has been executive producer of 3 South African production companies, Zigi Films, Fresh Water Films and Pistoleros Films. He is also a director in the feature film company, Jet Black Entertainment, through which he produced and filmed Irish director Phil Harrison’s feature film, The Good Man. The film has received excellent reviews, including this one in Variety Magazine http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117947909/ commenting on Roy’s work as Director of Photography.

Roy studied at the Brooks Institute of Film in Santa Barbara, California in the early eighties and has subsequently filmed and directed numerous commercials, short films, music videos, TV series, Feature Films and has photographically illustrated books, magazine covers and fashion spreads. He has had several photographic exhibitions and has won a variety of awards for his work. He was selected as Best Cinematography winner at the Mnet Vuka Awards, for the “CONFLICT DIAMOND” PSA, that also won Best Overall in the competition.

Roy was one of the key players in the building of the South African film industry and has helped launch careers for several young directors and producers. In 2010, he was nominated by the Cape Film Commission, for an Imbongi Award, for his contribution towards skills development and transformation. At the film industry 2012 year-end wrap party, Roy was awarded the F.I.L.M. Mentorship initiative’s, best mentor award, for his work training young filmmakers.

In August 2010, he was Director of Photography on LA director, Alano Massi’s indi short film LICENCE TO REPRODUCE, filmed in LA, starring Edward Furlong and Bokeem Woodbine.  See  trailer on Roy’s YouTube channel.

In 2012, Roy was appointed as Head of AFDA Film School in Cape Town. Due to the impact this full time position had on his filming and photography, he has since resigned from this post. Between pursuing his film career, Roy now gives part time master classes at several film schools. He has also been a graduate and post-graduate concept and film judge for the past 4 years and was Juror at the 2013 AFDA Film Festival.

Roy has sat on film juries for the International Emmy Awards, the SAFTAS and the Durban International film festival.

Roy directed thirteen episodes of Season 5 and seven episodes of Season 6 of the political drama TV series “90 Plein Street” for Born Free Media and the South African Broadcasting company.

In July 2015 Roy was DP on the “Not the end of the world” music video for indi LA rock band FADED PAPER FIGURES with Belgian director Leo Marthaler: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7ak8X0bP_o  In the same year he directed and filmed the “Nobody has to know” music video for US Atlantic Records featuring artists Kranium and TY Dolla $ign. The YouTube video has thus far had over 65 million views.
