Meet Matilda Phiri
Author of Grace the Village Girl
Matilda Phiri is a multiple award winning Malawian female Writer, Model, Entrepreneur and a University graduate of Political Leadership Degree minoring in Social Work. She graduated from Catholic University of Malawi in 2011. She did her primary school at Nayisi and Misesa LEA School and Blantyre Secondary School. 

She started writing in 2005 when she was at Blantyre Secondary School. In 2011 she started publishing articles and short stories in Malawi news. In 2013, she was given a column in Malawi news to write folktales every weekend. She has written movie scripts, radio plays, essays, poems and short stories many of which are in the pipeline to be screen played into movies, theatrical plays and published in books. She has worked with different organizations in Malawi like IKI, Centre for Social Research as a Social Researcher. 

In 2015, She became the first woman to win Malawi Writers Union Peer Gynt Children's book competition with her story titled Grace the village girl which she published it 2018. She has also won FMB/MAWU short story award in 2016. In 2017,  She also won National Literary award with her story titled Bitter Lemonade. 

She loves doing charity work and was also nominated for Queens Young Africans achievers award in 2017. She wants to empower girl child and contribute to quality education in the world. She believes in hard work and persistence.
